A sondagem realizada pela Universidade Católica mostra claramente os limites da influência dos meios de comunicação e o limiar a partir do qual a comunicação deixa de ser eficaz e se vira contra o emissor.
De acordo com a referida sondagem 61 por cento da população considera que os mídia que violarem o segredo de justiça devem ser punidos. Esta percentagem sobe para 76 por cento para a faixa etária entre os 18 e os 24 anos e 75 por cento entre os 25 e os 34 anos. As pessoas mais velhas, provavelmente valorizando mais a sua experiência dos tempos da ditadura e da censura, são bastante menos penalizadores para os mídia.
Quanto à forma como os mídia trataram o caso Casa Pia, e interrogados sobre uma apreciação geral sobre o papel dos mídia, 55 por cento responderam que este é mais positivo que negativo, enquanto 30 por cento responderam o oposto.
Ora o caso Casa Pia foi um das paradigmas da importância dos mídia no trazer para a opinião pública factos relacionados com o caso e em pressionar a justiça para não deixar cair aqueles actos no olvido. É sintomática a forma como a opinião pública encara, actualmente, o papel da comunicação social nesse caso. Se esta sondagem tivesse sido feita há um ano, ou mesmo há menos tempo, provavelmente os resultados seriam muito diversos. A opinião pública tem reagido mal aos excessos recentes dos mídia.
Os mídia portugueses sofrem da maleita geral da sociedade portuguesa: falta de profissionalismo e tendência para uma grande ligeireza de actuação, pouco respeitadora da deontologia profissional. Aliás, quando se é amador, não há, obviamente, deontologia profissional, quanto muito haverá “deontologia amadora”. E é isso que temos.
Se analisarmos a actuação de Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein e das chefias de redacção do Washington Post durante o Caso Watergate, superiormente descrita no filme «Os Homens do Presidente» (All the President’s Men), vemos um grande rigor de actuação, um enorme cuidado com as fundamentações das notícias e com a forma como estas eram veiculadas e o preterir do sensacionalismo e do imediatismo perante o rigor e a ética.
Não me parece que este rigor e ética existam, na mesma medida, nos meios de comunicação portugueses. E isso tem os seus custos. Alguns benefícios a curto prazo, nas audiências, mas custos muito mais importantes, a médio e longo prazo, na sua credibilidade. E seria bom que os nossos mídia compreendessem isso
Penso que este caso foi afectado por um movimento mais global nos média: a guerra das audiências. Isto aliado a algum pouco profissionalismo e com a pressão de alguma opinião tendenciosa, levou a que a opinião pública castigasse os média. Mais, julgo não ser correcto, por mais grave que seja o assunto, que se passe 30 a 40 minutos de um espaço noticioso de 60 minutos só com o caso Casa Pia. E o caso repetiu-se dia após dia. Para casos importantes, e este sem dúvida merecia sem dúvida tal classificação, deveria fazer-se programas especiais sobre o assunto. Não podemos esquecer que enquanto decorria o processo Casa Pia, outros assuntos importantes se passavam no país e no mundo.

Concordo que os jornalistas têm muitos vícios, mas temos que reconhecer que têm muita importância.
É preferível uma imprensa com certa ligeireza, ams livre, que uma imprensa sem liberdade.
Não eh so em Portugal que os midia se comportam assim
